“The Central African States Development Bank BDEAC, and the executive secretariat of the the United Nations Framework on Climate Change UNFCCC, have engaged themselves to cooperate in the fight against climate change in Central Africa”.
Mr. Dieudonné Evou Menkou , the president of the bank of the Central African States Development Bank, BDEAC and Mr. Simon Still, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change UNFCCC, have signed a memorandum of agreement aimed at defining the modalities of the cooperation between the two institutions. The signing happened on Sunday, December 3, 2023 in Dubai.
The signing ceremony happened during the Cop 28 conference happening in Dubai in the presence of several officials such as madam Ariette Soupan NONAULT, minister of environment, Durable development of the Congo basin. And many other experts representing regional organizations and civil Societies.
Through this agreement, both institutions have engaged themselves in creating a framework of collaboration aimed at supporting the two parties and other partners in implementing the Paris accord. This accord takes into account other variables such as ; climatic leadership, political coherence, reinforcement of capacity, dissemination of knowledge, sensitization, information and mobilization of funds.
The signing of this memorandum of agreement is also a means for the two institutions to reaffirm their engagement in the preservation of the environment and in the fight against climate change. The Bank also says that as part of its strategic plan 2023-2027 , they will be engaging in the management of blue funds of the Congo basin of which it’s first pipeline constitute about 254 projects, going up to more than 10 billion dollars resources.
According to the news release given by the bank, one of the immediate impacts of this agreement will be the ability of the secretariat to mobilize it’s experts in the case of future meetings on climate stakes which will take place in January 2024.
