CAMP, CMF LAUNCH PRISON FOR PEARCE PROJECT IN NKONGSAMBA

The Cameroon Association of Media Professionals CAMP in partnership with the Christian Men Fellowship of PC Nkongsamba have launched the “prison for peace” project at the Nkongsamba Principal Prison.

The launch of the project took place on Saturday October 14,2023 as CAMP’s national president, Solomon Agborem accompanied by camper Emile Agbor and Kejang Henri preached the essence of peace to the inmates even thought their liberty is restricted.
The prison for peace project is an initiative of the Cameroon Association of Media Professionals (CAMP) aimed at raising inmates as peace ambassadors in prisons for a peaceful social cohesion with their community. “Today we were in Kongsamba to launch the prison for peace project which has as objective to train inmates to become peace ambassadors. Because we know that they are a group of people of the community that are left out when we talk about peace. We believe that though incarcerated they are some day going to go out and become citizens of the country. So while in prison they should not give themselves into acts which do not build their character.” Solomon Agborem CAMP National president said.

Addressing the Nkongsamba Prison administrators and the close to 500 inmates, Solomon Agborem, national president of CAMP explained that the team was in Nkongsamba for the first time to launch the project which they had implemented in Buea, Bamenda and Ngaoundere. He went on that the prison term which they are serving is not a condemnation but a process of transformation so that they can be better citizens tomorrow. While dishing out the message of peace, the camp president exhorted the inmates to respect the authorities, which is in itself an act of peace, not indulging themselves in unorthodox practices which may mare their stay in prison. “We shall be back subsequently to train some of the leaders of the inmates as prison peace ambassadors” Agborem assured the inmates.

Both organizations, later handed some food items and toiletries made up of a bag of rice, salt, cartons of soap, a pack of toilet tissue, a pack of female sanitary pads, packs of detergents,20 litres of palm oil and dresses.

A collaborator of the Nkongsamba Prison Administrator chef Nounke, thanked both organizations for the gesture which he describes as timely.
The CAMP on it’s part says it would do a comeback probably by the end of this year or early next year for an intense training of peace ambassadors with the Kongsamba inmates and more packages to assist them in their day to day stay in prison.
